One Activity

This course is run by a professional textile artist and teacher. Participants can refresh rusty skills or be taught new sewing skills. Textile items are repaired, altered, or used to create new textile pieces, giving the original textile a fresh life. This course has empowered participants to create or restore clothing for their family, at little or no cost.

Many Participants

This course has been provided in response to stated needs by our participants. The increasing cost of living has impacted their ability to provide clothing for themselves and their families. Sharing textile resources between each other has helped to cut costs and build community.

Feedback

• Participants expressed satisfaction in their achievements, and increased confidence.
• Skills were learned and/or developed – participants were surveyed about their level of a range of sewing skills at the beginning and at the end of the course, and all reported a significant increase in skill levels.
• New textile items were created with minimal or no cost.
• Participants enjoyed creating unique and new pieces.
• The quantity of textiles going into landfill was reduced.
• ​Social isolation was reduced as participants got to know each other in a friendly and safe environment.
• Participants reported enjoying the space and time to do something creative for themselves.
