One ActivityIn partnership with Earwig Productions, we have been running Drama Workshops for primary school age children on a Thursday afternoon, since September 2016. The children have had great fun, growing in confidence and working hard. At the end of the autumn term, they completed their first performance, the Christmas Story, to parents and families of Fresh Start.
Whilst the Drama sessions take place tea, coffee and activities are provided for parents and younger children thus building social capital and addressing social isolation. |
Many ParticipantsThe last Drama workshops took place for 6 weeks in April-June 2018. A drama teacher from Earwig Productions, attended every Thursday, teaching the children all aspects of drama. 11 children from 6 families attended.
The children grew in confidence and in their ability to express themselves clearly and precisely and to step out of their comfort zones. Many of the children discovered new talents and strengths; they developed a more positive attitude; respect for one another developed as they have learnt to take turns and listens to each other’s contribution. They learnt to appreciate other’s contributions, even when there was a difference in opinion and recognise that their opinion, beliefs and contributions count and are valued. The children realised they have a voice. Parents, volunteers and the drama teacher testified to the positive changes they saw in the children. The children have also presented several plays not only to their families but to a wider audience at the Kidz Club Christmas Party. Ten children were able to attend a Drama Summer School organised by Earwig Productions. Places were subsidised for families who attend Fresh Start, by Earwig Productions. The Summer School took place at Roedean School. Attending the summer school not only reinforced what they had learnt but it also allows those attending the opportunity to enlarge their life vision, raising aspirations, improving outcomes. |
Our response to Covid-19We have been unable to run these workshops because of the Covid-19 pandemic restrictions.

Feedback"The drama workshops that kids club ran were brilliant. They were very relaxed and the children really looked forward to them. My kids are fairly shy and with the gentle encouragement that was offered in the workshops they were able to experience the pleasure of performing without the anxiety that they usually had. As a parent it was wonderful to see their quiet confidence grow and their pleasure of sharing in this way. Thank you kids club for all you do!!"
